Postcards from Hamirpur

Dates we were in Hamirpur – April 16 to 19

Hotel – Hotel Hamir, an HPTDC property. The rooms are large, much larger than the Lake View, Bilaspur. There is a refrigerator in the room but no kettle. They first tried giving just a mattress as the third bed for mom, then Krishnan went and spoke to them. They got a rickety old folding cot and the same thin mattress. So if you are wanting an extra bed, carry your own :).

Food – You don’t get the tawa rotis like Bilaspur, these are more like Tandoori rotis. Breakfast options – do try the Chola Bhatura and the Poori Alu. Paranthas can be given a pass. Don’t try any of the sandwiches.

Wi-Fi – Non-existent. 3g works really well in the Conference room and closer to the road. In the room it’s patchy and doesn’t work most times. Frustrating if you want to be connected all the time.

Hotel Hamir is at the end of the main market and on the road to Dharamshala

This is the store where we stocked up on our dry rations. really nice Murmuri.. will post pictures.

Football field just off the market

Deceptively small gate leading to the football field

Yet another ATM that is open 24 hours out of the longer hours that they have seem to have found

Another spectacular view on the way to Mandi from Hamirpur via Bhota, Jhau and Ner Chowk.

About 20 kms of bad roads.. this stretch has no road because of a landslide and only one vehicle can go at one time.

there are Himalayan ranges visible at this point and also from certain points in Hamirpur, but the camera couldnt capture them. not even a DSLR, maybe I need to check the settings
