Rains and Sprouting New Knowledge

We woke up as usual around 4 am but realised that it was raining, so we just chatted for a while before checking our respective iPads. We leave our phones in the living room on silent when we go to sleep but we do keep the iPads close to our bed because we are reading a book or magazine or a blog before nodding off. The light setting is kept to a low so that it doesn’t hurt our eyes, and we try and avoid checking news sites or email at night or first thing in the morning. Many days I put the iPad on airplane mode so that I can read undisturbed.

Today morning I checked this blog of mine 🙂 and saw that I had a few new followers. As I was checking the new followers, I saw an interesting blog named “Wandering Rani” and immediately checked out her blog posts. The second or third blog was titled “Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee” and I started reading it. To say I was blown away is an understatement ! How did I miss reading about this great man all this while? While I knew that our PM Modi is a great fan of his, that he had taken our flag and unfurled it at Lal Chowk, Srinagar and that he had died in J&K, I never dug deep into his story. I just thought the BJP was promoting him because he happened to be the founder of Jana Sangh (the precursor to BJP). I was also wondering how a history buff like me never registered his name as a hero of the freedom struggle and then I realised that the history books never spoke much of him when I was in school. I have discovered many other luminaries of our freedom struggle much later. This is what the Left historians and the 65 years of misrule by the CONgress has done to us – hidden the true history and just glorified Pandit Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, as though they both got us independence from the British all by themselves.

Anyway, please read this blog – Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee. Learn about yet another great son of our country and his contribution to the freedom struggle.

It does appear on hindsight (which is always 20:20) that Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee was sidelined because he didn’t toe the line on J&K and other issues with Pandit Nehru. That he died under mysterious circumstances just adds fuel to the conspiracy angle. I just read his famous statement – “Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Pradhan aur Do Nishan nahi chalenge (A single country can’t have two constitutions, two prime ministers, and two national emblems)” in opposition of Article 370.

Am glad in a way that it rained in the morning and I got onto this blog. I learnt about Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee. I will now study all the material thats available about him. Am just wondering about what West Bengal has come down to … from the heights of Subhash Chandra Bose and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee to the depths of Mamata Banerjee !! :(:(.
