I usually take pictures of the Poornima (full moon) every month. Before going down for our after dinner walk today, I was checking out pictures in my phone from last year. I found a couple of photographs that I have taken on Aug 15th which was also a full moon day.
The moon was as beautiful and free as ever, while we Earthlings are under a lockdown this Poornima. In a way the lockdown has slowed things down so that we can appreciate things like the full moon more.
Here are a couple of pictures that I took today –
I have written several blogs on the full moon – Ah the full Moon !!
Bhadrapada Poornima
Tomorrow is the Bhadrapada Poornima as it is the full moon day during the month of Bhadrapada as per the Hindu calendar. Its signifies the start of Pitru Paksha – the fortnight to pay homage to ancestors.
As per the Tamil calendar, tomorrow marks the beginning of Mahaalaya paksha (pitru paksha). For the next 15 days we pay homage to our ancestors (pitrus) and some traditions do not add onions and garlic to their food during this time.
Enjoy the full moon and do remember to pay homage to your ancestors. The method is not important, its the gratitude that matters.
