My Saree Today – Bindu’s Blue

When I first read about the 100 saree pact, I wanted to post about the saree that I wear everyday. For me everyday is a saree day. I can’t think of a better way to start the day than to pull out a saree and wear it. Today its a Gopinath Kanchi Silk saree in my (Bindu) kinda blue ❤️.

Gopinath is a young engineer following the family tradition of weaving Kanchi silk sarees. I have written about him in several posts. Am glad that I discovered him because my favourite silk is the Kanchi silk.

This particular saree was woven for Krishnan’s Shastiabdapoorthi. I got a nine yards and a six yards saree made. Because it was for the Shastiabdapoorthi, the blue is without black threads… and what a stunning blue this is. The silk is butter soft and I can wear this throughout the week without feeling bored.

Gopinath had shared a few videos of how this saree was woven. I have combined a couple of them to share the laborious process of weaving a saree. A hand woven saree is truly a work of art as each piece is different even when the same colour thread is used and the same design is repeated.

Since it’s handmade, every saree ends up being different.

The shawl that I am wearing is from Bhuttico in Manali. Bought it during our 2015 trip there.

Like my friend Akash wrote on LinkedIn wishing everyone a Happy New Day and the start of a wonderful year ahead.
