The Absence of Science Behind Blood Pressure and Other Common Medications
Found this brilliant blog today and I want to add a few additional points.
Bharat is now going the way of the US of A. We pop a pill for everything, from a common cold to fever to hypertension to diabetes. We don’t want to pause and reevaluate our life choices.
Young Men Today
Every young man today has to grow quickly in his career, earn a six figure salary within a few months of joining an organisation. He gets better marriage proposals if his designation says manager, even if he manages nobody except himself.
There is partying in the metro cities and in states like TamilNadu, the government ensures easy access to liquor shops. Gone are the days when young men would not drink in front of their parents…. now father and son drink together. I don’t have anything against drinking but no one teaches young folks about limits and addiction. Have lost a very dear friend and team mate to alcohol recently. Am unable to wrap my head around the rapid deterioration that he went through.
Even more recently, we saw what happened to six youngsters in Dehradun who drove rashly after drinking and only one of them has survived barely …
Drugs and rave parties are a thing. Food is junk… McD, Pizza Hut, Dominos, KFC, Taco Bell and several other US restaurant chains are sprouting up everywhere and all they dish out is “junk”. Even the meat is probably fake meat or dog meat or some other road kill meat. It’s sad that youngsters don’t know what real food is.
Young Women Today
Careers are a priority, especially in the metro cities. Pregnancies are delayed. IVF clinics abound. For all the women empowerment that we think these solutions bring… the side effects are unbelievable. Many young women I know suffer from PCOD, Thyroid imbalance, obesity or being unnaturally thin… and other lifestyle diseases like men – hypertension and diabetes.
More young women drink, do drugs and smoke as though they are healthy practices …. the same thing that I said for young men apply to young women. In the Dehradun tragedy, three young women lost their lives :(:(.
Now why am I talking of young people? Because all the lifestyle diseases are occurring in these young folk ! The human body is meant to function for a 100 + years or more easily, if it’s maintained well (not filled with botox or some other nonsensical chemical that makes you look younger). A 100 years of healthy living is within reach, if we don’t abuse our bodies. That’s what is happening in the blue zones. Unfortunately the blue zones are disappearing because “junk” food has found its way there.
Young folks also need to learn cooking – eating at a restaurant everyday or reheating pizzas or slurping Maggi noodles isn’t going to keep you healthy.
Hypertension and diabetes are lifestyle diseases – change your lifestyle before popping that pill. PCOD is a lifestyle disease, Obesity is a lifestyle disease. I always remember this great quote from Dalai Lama –
Get a grip folks ! Live longer and live well.
Closing with my favourite Dhanvantari Vandana – May the World be healed
"Namami Dhanvantari Aadi Devam, Surasura Vandit Paada Padmam, Loke Jara Rugbhay Mrityu Naasham, Daataaram Eesham Vividhaushadhinaam" A literal translation would be - I surrender to Bhagwan Dhanvantari, at whose Lotus feet all the Devas and Asuras pray for a long life. May the world be rid of old age, the fear of death, and be healed of various diseases through your medicines.

Eating healtily is important for me, and US food is deplorable. It seems few peoe cook anymore. Neither men nor women make a habit of it. What has changed?
