Birthday Saree #2 – A Stunning Nabakothi

For my Julian calendar birthday on April 6th, I wore another handwoven beauty from Odisha. This is a “Nine Motif” Nabakothi saree in deep moss and black. I bought this saree from Navya’s Choice. This is another young entrepreneur Mukul Surya whose family is into weaving. His twitter handle is @choicenavya12 and Instagram is https://www.instagram.com/navyachoice08/. Shefali Vaidya, the firebrand political commentator is also a Saree addict. She had posted a few contacts for handwoven sarees from different parts of India during the lockdown.

Navya’s Choice is one of those contacts. The other was Gopinath – A Kanchi Silk Saree – Direct from the Weaver !

The neckpiece is from Desh Maheshwari, Noida and its three strings of Malachite beads. The saree is a Khandua silk (mulberry) woven in the Nuapatna village. Every part of India has such fascinating handwoven treasures !!!

I had a wonderful birthday with lots of wishes coming my way from friends, family and well wishers. Manish and Swati got me Chotu Motu Joshi’s Jalebi from Bikaner and dropped it off at home on the night of the 5th. I was fast asleep so Krishnan got it from them. We had Indori style breakfast on the 6th – Poha with Jalebi.

I got PM Modi’s birthday wishes too. I hope I get a call from him on my birthday next year :):).

The one call that didn’t come and I missed sorely was Seenu Mama’s… he would be the first to call and wish. Mami and his daughters sent me the birthday wishes from his phone and that felt great. It felt like he was wishing me which I am sure he was.
