The Anniversary Saree

When Venkatesh Narasimhan, the MD of Cooptex posted a set of Arani silk sarees on the FB page in early July, I stored the picture of one of those sarees … it was a pale pista green saree with red or maroon “tree of life” motifs all over. It was a very different design and I thought of getting it for my anniversary.

I immediately pinged Siva to find out if that saree was available but unfortunately it was already sold out. So I asked Siva about when it would be back in stock and he tried finding out from the weaving cluster. A week after our exchange he said there was another saree in the Egmore showroom that had the same motif but the color of the saree was a darker lime green. He picked out the saree and sent me pictures over whatsapp and I realised that this combination was even more striking and immediately bought the saree.

Here are a couple of pictures of my anniversary saree. The neckpiece is a multi-coloured stone string from Desh Maheshwari, Noida.

Cooptex has such beautiful handwoven sarees and all thanks to Venkatesh for bringing new designs as well as reviving several of the old weaves. A special thanks to the entire online team in general, and an extra special thanks to Siva in particular for their outstanding customer service.
