Satay Dressing – My version

I am sure the original Satay Sauce or dressing maybe slightly different, but am totally addicted to my version !! The first time I made this sauce was in March this year. I was randomly searching for sauce recipes especially as salad dressings and stumbled upon this recipe on Sharan’s salads page.

Here is what was posted on Sharan’s page –

Ingredients
Homemade Peanut Butter, Ginger, Garlic, Red Chilly Flakes, Salt, Lemon, Water as required, Date Paste, Tamarind Paste. Blend everything together and the dressing/sauce is ready.

I changed it just a little bit and my Satay Sauce recipe is as follows –

Peanuts – 1/3 C, 1 TSP red chilli powder, 1 TSP salt, 1 TBSP – Jaggery, 1/2 inch piece of raw ginger, 4 small pods of raw Garlic, juice of one lemon. Dry grind everything except lemon juice, till peanut butter like consistency is achieved. Add lemon juice and a little bit of water to make it like a sauce/paste. Can be used dry too – tastes great !

Satay Sauce
When you dry grind all the ingredients – this tastes good as it is.

Am totally addicted to this sauce and Krishnan loves it too. I sometimes make it a little spicy and sometimes a little tangy, but there’s magic when peanuts and lemon juice come together.

You can use this as salad dressing, as a sandwich spread or just eat it by itself like I do :):). A healthy alternative to store bought sauces/salad dressings.
