Sept 7, 2010 – Istanbul, Turkey.
Today being our anniversary, we made plans to do two cruises on the Bosphorus. One afternoon cruise and one night cruise. Our Turkey trip has all the makings of a memorable one….
I wore my new saree of course and Krishnan wore new clothes too. This saree is from Kumaran silks and I bought it just before paying the bill :):). I had made other purchases and while going to the cash counter, I noticed this saree on a mannequin and wanted it. Yes its black and anything black is beautiful except a black tongue ! Its a chiffon with flowers made in satin all over.

Here are some pictures from our afternoon cruise on the Bosphorus which is a natural strait connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. Its visible everywhere in Istanbul and in some ways defines Turkey. It was a river in the valley during the Tertiary period of the continents, which was drowned by the sea at the end of this period. New Mosque or the Yeni Cami Mosque
Post the cruise we went to see the New Mosque aka Yeni Cami Mosque, that is just outside the Spice Bazaar. Do note the beautiful chandeliers and the amazing tiled dome. Read more about the Yeni Cami Mosque.
We went back to the hotel for a little bit of rest and then went out on the 7.30 pm evening Bosphorus cruise that included some entertainment and dinner. We had a belly dancer on the boat and she was really beautiful besides being a graceful dancer. Some music was played and everyone danced whichever way they could !
Everyone took lots of pictures of the bridges across the Bosphorus that are lit up at night.
The evening cruise was beautiful with all of Istanbul lit up … truly enjoyed our anniversary cruise.
As I have mentioned in my earlier blogs, we usually travel in September. In 2010, we visited Turkey and just fell in love with the place. This year, the Pandemic has locked us down at home. So I decided to relive our Turkey trip day by day. We reached Istanbul on Sept 5th (Reliving the 2010 Turkey trip – Day 1). The first day of sightseeing was on Sept 6, 2010. Read about it @ Reliving the 2010 Turkey trip – Day 2.
After notes : In 2010 I hadn’t discovered Desh Maheshwari at Noida yet. So didn’t have my collection of beautiful stone jewellery. I also had not discovered handlooms… so most of my sarees were not handwoven.
