One sitting books :)

I am a book worm, have been since the time I could read. My special love has been fiction for the longest time, till I met Krishnan and then I started reading self-help, biographies, etc. Then once I moved into senior management, leadership positions, my interest shifted completely to the leadership and management books.

I still read fiction but less frequently. In recent times two Indian fiction authors caught my attention, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and Amish Tripathi. The first book of Chitra Divakaruni I read was “Palace of illusions” and I just could not keep the book down. Mahabharata from Draupadi’s point of view was stunning. Then I read “one amazing thing” which was a more laboured read. In the meanwhile Amish’s Shiva trilogy happened, I just couldn’t get over Immortals of Meluha, The secret of the Nagas and The oath of the Vayuputras. The third book was read by Krishnan before me and I was very upset over that for a day :):)

A couple of weeks back, I found “Sister of my heart” by Chitra Divakaruni and read it in one sitting last to last Saturday … Then on Monday, Bala gave me “Queen of dreams” and this last Saturday went off in reading it in one go. Ms. Divakaruni is truly a gifted story teller. “Sister of my heart” is just a simple tale of two girls but the way the plot twists and turns, is just awesome. And I certainly hope she is planning a sequel because I want to know what happens next 🙂

“Queen of dreams” is a little dark and at times makes you wonder if there really are people who can dream your dreams … Again the story telling is taut and racy and you want to turn the pages and get to the end. Just loved it.

One of my professors called fiction “magical realism” … These books of Ms. Divakaruni certainly are magical with a touch of realism. Much recommended.
