Karthigai Sarees :)

Are you looking at the title and wondering how many sarees I wore on Karthigai ? Well, I wore a new Mysore printed silk saree for Karthigai and used the plural “sarees” because I wanted to write about the new Negamam that I wore for Karthigai last year !!

It has been a while since I posted about sarees. Have to make sure that I post more often. I continue to wear them everyday, no change there and none expected.

When we visited Mysore in May 2023, I bought a few sarees at the Govt run Priyadarshini Handloom store. Do read all about that here – National Handloom Day 2023 – Mysore Silk Saree. For Karthigai this year, I wore another Mysore silk saree. When the showroom sales person pulled out this saree, I put it aside first… it’s just beautiful.

Last year we celebrated Karthigai with Rohini, my cousin in Coimbatore. We had been to Negamam a few days before that. Read all about the Negamam sarees.

Here is the picture of me wearing the new Negamam on Dec 8, Karthigai 2022.

This Negamam is very unique. It combines the paalum-pazhamum checks with the Negamam motifs. As with all Negamam sarees it’s super comfortable to wear and lasts really long. Note – Paalum Pazhamum is a classic Tamil movie. The heroine wears a saree that has these broad checks in red, yellow and green.

Also, if you are wondering about why my cousin Rohini resembles Amma more than me, it’s because I take after my father :).

Am always happy to write about sarees …. it’s gives me as much of a high as wearing one. Will try and be more regular about these posts.
