Digital Lockers: A Traveler’s Convenience

The first time we used a digital locker to keep our bags was on Aug 30, 2018 at the Inverness railway station. We had been to Edinburgh to visit my school friend Sriman and took a two day trip to Inverness to meet Nessie. Scotland Day 6 – Hot pursuit of “Nessie”.

We had to clear out of our Airbnb a little early, so we reached the train station and put our overnight bag in the digital lockers and walked around the mall and ate a leisurely lunch at a nearby restaurant. It was so convenient !! We had only known about the cloak rooms in Indian railway platforms, but these were more convenient.

Then we used them again at the Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) as we transited back and forth from Prague. Germany Day 8 – Day spent on Trains !

On June 12th we took the Vande Bharat from Chennai to Coimbatore. As we entered the heritage building of the Chennai Central Station, we noticed bright yellow lockers similar to what we had seen in Inverness and Berlin.

This was such a happy sight !! The central station was far cleaner than what I remember from May 2023 when we took our first Vande Bharat train to go to Mysore.

The Vande Bharat train was on time and it was a great experience this time too. Even the snacks were of better quality. The tea and coffee premixes were actually tasty.

The only experience that was a little off putting was that soup was offered without mentioning that it was paid for :). We all took the soup premix and it was quite good but then we had to pay for it. GPay works and it was inexpensive, but we would have preferred if they had told us it was paid for. The other feedback is not to insist on taking a picture of the customer’s feedback :):). No one would want to say something rude to the server’s face. For instance, I wanted to give feedback on how the bio-toilets were not clean, but didnt.

We enjoyed the train journey. The greenery outside our windows was soothing to the eye. Our country is so beautiful … enjoy seeing it through these pics –
