After two not-so-happy blogs on happenings during our morning walks in Chennai, I want to write a positive chirpy kinda blog !
When the infamous Chennai floods happened in Dec 2015, we realised that Chennai had been blessed with a huge marshland and “development” ate up 70% of that blessing. If the marshland had remained intact, it would have soaked all the excess water and there would have been no floods …. but how can we stop “development”?, right? So we will continue to develop and mess with nature’s blessings. Ok am stopping… that line of thought is for another blog. The remaining marshland is a much needed refuge for birds.
Our house is in Pallikaranai and between houses and the never ending “flats” there are small tracts where the marsh has re-formed and birds come and feed and nest there. I have managed to capture three different kind of birds so far and one bird on the wire that I couldn’t capture very well. These birds are a highlight of our morning walks as they create quite a symphony with their happy chirping.

Am sure there are many readers who know the names of these birds. Please share in your comments so that many of us who don’t know their names can also learn.
The last bird is a drongo. Nice to see Nature even in a concrete jungle.
