A “Boy” or “Pixie” Haircut

I have had really long hair (just below above my knees) till 1997, that’s 28 years of my life. The first ever time I cut my hair to waist length was in Mumbai in 1997, when we were smack in the middle of our bankruptcy.

That’s me in the yellow saree in 1986 as a 17 year old

Then we reached Delhi in Aug 1997, and slowly my hair kept getting shorter. I reached shoulder length and finally in 2000, I got my first “boy” cut – totally short.

Pixie Cut, boy cut

I had lost oodles of weight, and worked with Pizza Corner at that time. My colleague Prashant and I were in Chennai for work and for some reason they wanted a pic of mine to be clicked in the Pizza Corner uniform. This photo above was clicked in a photo studio in Kilpauk Garden Road, near the cemetery. Prashant cracked a joke just when the photographer clicked this pic and this is probably the best passport size photo of mine ever.

All other passport size pics have me looking glum :):).

I again got this “boy” cut done in 2016 when I wanted to let my grey hair to be showcased :). That was a short lived project and I soon went back to colouring my hair.

A couple of days back we were in Chennai for Chitappa’s 10th and 13th day ceremonies. I got together with Latha and went to her hairdresser to get a haircut. The shoulder length hair wasn’t working for me, as the humidity rose. Dealing with a permanently wet scalp is not very exciting.

I toyed with the idea of a short layered hair cut, but then told Pavithra to simply go the distance and give me a pixie or boy cut. She left one last layer more than what I had in the Pizza Corner pic, which I may just snip off once we are back in Gurgaon.

Please do share your thoughts on which look works for me …

  1. You carry off the salt & pepper look so well, if I may say so. It’s majestic and adorable all at once! That layered fringe in front is very flattering. ☺️
