On Saturday (Nov 22nd) we decided to have breakfast at Saravana Bhavan, Janpath and then go for our morning walk to Nehru Park. While the food at Saravana Bhavan didnt lift our spirits, the walk at Nehru Park was wonderful.
Dhillika is blessed with several parks and we hope to walk in many of them this winter. Krishnan’s office during 2001-2006 was near Nehru Park so he has been to this park several times for an afternoon stroll. We both had tried to attend one of the “Music In the Park” events organised by SPIC MACAY long back at this same park, but the parking was full and we just turned back. So for me this was the first time walking in Nehru Park.
The walking track is well laid and thankfully not covered in dog poop like many other walking tracks are. There are clear instructions on not using shoes with spikes to run on this track. There are several entrances and we entered through gate #1. Krishnan was not happy parking the car on the road, even though many cars were parked. What we didnt realise was there were other entrances (gate #6 and one more towards the end of Niti Marg) which had parking inside the park. Will remember it next time.
The park has public toilets near every entrance and lots of places to sit and enjoy the greenery, fountains, statues etc. It’s open from 6 am to 8 pm during winters (Oct to Mar). We found several ladies had brought a picnic, children enjoyed the fountain, and some prominent citizens of the country also using the park for their exercise. There are two places with an outdoor gym. One particular spot near gate #6 has a huge family of Parakeets that we couldn’t photograph but enjoyed watching.
