Which is why the Roman Catholics have a confessional. To accept your wrongs, feel sorry for it and make amends — that is a practical way to heal such self-inflicted harm. God doesn’t need man’s confession, man needs it to cleanse himself of the wounds!
And Tiruvalluvar said it all centuries ago in a couplet:
பிறர்க்கு இன்னா முற்பகல் செய்யின் தமக்கின்னா பிற்பகல் தாமே வரும்
Translation: If you harm others in the morning, it surely hits you back by afternoon.
