The Impact of Deep Fake Videos on Indian Politics and Society

The first time we saw how credible a deep fake video can be was on the popular web series “Blacklist”. In episode #6 of season #7, a Dr. Michael Alexander is shown committing suicide using a suicide vest. The police reach DXE labs, Dr. Alexander’s office only to see him walking in like it’s a normal workday. Unfortunately he is shot dead when the police mistake his phone for a detonator. A totally innocent man is killed due to a fake video :(.

Another tech whiz character in the web series called Tadashi says this is the best deep fake video that he has seen.

Ever since that episode, Krishnan and I are even more careful about not believing all the You Tube videos that are put out. The series of fake news that CONgress and its gang have been spreading is unbelievable. A simple example of how current news that’s telecast over several channels also gets twisted is shared below.

Here’s the meme posted by this rabidly anti-Modi cartoonist about PM Modi meeting the World Cup winning Indian cricket team. FAKE NEWS.

Deep Fake and India

The reality is so different !! Modiji did not even hold the trophy. He held the hands of Rohit Sharma and the coach Rahul Dravid. See below – THE REAL.

Deep Fake and India

A few years later no one will remember the real picture and everyone will remember only the fake meme because that gets reposted so many times :(.

Another example, even now Wikipedia says the Delhi riots were Hindu-Muslim riots and that Hindus tried to kill Muslims when the reality is that the Muslim perps are in jail with overwhelming evidence against them.

Here’s another Twitter thread that was posted today by Sreevidya Balasubrahmaniam and I am reposting it here. Have removed the numbering, but you can read the entire thread here – @BaluSreevidya on Popular Front coming back across Europe.

The Popular Front's comeback across Europe, especially in France, hints at a major shake-up of the political order by the GDS.
India's choice of NDA brings a sigh of relief. The US should follow suit with Trump.
Set aside the flawed Democracy for now and focus on the PF.

Why do @narendramodi and @AmitShah keep pushing for a 'Congress Mukth Bhārat'?
It is a socialist party, formed by the Colonial powers and is still under. Has the same ability to bounce back like the PF in Europe.
Congress's recent makeover to a complete Islamic party is one step short of becoming another Popular Front.
The shocking leap PF made in the French election's 2nd round mirrors the tactical voting we see in India, a perfect example being EPS's manoeuvres in Vikravandi

The real question is: How did the PF get to this level?

Key Points:

~ France stands as the perfect ground for reviving the Popular Front, deeply intertwined with the revival of Islamic Socialism (IS)

~ The perfect Hegelian equation of 'Invasion through Immigration' since 2015 set the stage for this unholy nexus.

- Observe the dialectical phenomenon: Islam initially inciting terror, then fostering Islamophobia, and consolidating power through victimhood (example - recent Palestinian movements).

~ How did they pull this off so successfully?

I present three factors:

First, the ability to wait decades and continually engage with various target groups.

Second, the knack for bridging ideological divides to form convincing alliances. This includes factions like the Greens, Liberals, Democrats, and anyone left of centre.

The alliance between IS and PF through Algerian Nationalists and the French Left in the 1930s showcases how they rise above ideological differences to oppose a common enemy.

Whether it's Colonials, Fascists, or the modern Right Wing, they only need a common enemy.

In France, it's Le Pen; in the US, it's Trump; in India, it's Modi.

That's why Modi is relentlessly labeled a fascist. They're bringing this message to the masses, translating it to "Tanashah" in the local language. I've detailed this in a previous thread.

In short, like in India, Le Pen's anti-Islam polarisation led to a reverse consolidation of Muslims, fuelling the resurgence of IS and PF.

Third, the Left's ability to collectively and simultaneously orchestrate global narratives is unmatched.

Be it Climate Change fuelling the Corporate Left, BLM championing the oppressed, or rallying for Palestine, their playbook is cutting-edge.

Their arsenal of tools, skilled agents, and visionary tactics represent a new form of warfare that many can't quite grasp.

That's why Dhārmic forces struggle to counter this dark power.

I now bring you to Kerala which is the only standing Communist political force in India.

On the verge of uprooting, it has applied the French formula of PF and IS since the mid 2000's.

In a candid 2010 interview, then-Communist CM of Kerala, V S Achutanandan, exposed a deep-rooted connection.

The bond between Islamism and Communism stretches back over 150 years.

If I see it right, Islam was a socialist movement, and Communists merely repackaged it.

As I say, remove the sickle’s handle and change the flag’s colour— you get the Crescent and the Star.

Here's what Congress is becoming: India's new PF. Small and regional anti-BJP parties are playing right into their hands.

They're corrupt. But Congress is sinister.

The NDA’s return proves one thing—we still have a pure collective conscience.

To halt Congress, we must:

1. Avoid targeting Muslims or any group that might reverse consolidate.
2. Steer clear of attacking Modi and BJP—they're our best bet.
3. Focus on nation-building.

Think how you can support Modi.

4. Craft positive stories. Drive real change in your community. Dive into Modi's schemes and connect those in need with local BJP leaders.

5. Most importantly, IGNORE noise from the enemies. Stop amplifying Left voices.

6. Swadharma.

A terribly scary situation out there. Especially for India. Sharing a short video that was posted recently about how the CONgress and its allies are spreading fake news to create unrest in India.

There are some measures being taken by the Government to curb this menace of fake news but each one of us has to be vigilant. The Deep fake videos are truly scary… they look and feel real because they are actually a composite of different videos/audios/photos of the person or event. So your voice will sound the same because, in reality it’s your voice, but what you are saying has been stitched together using other videos.

Do read – Spreading fake news could land offenders in jail for three years, under new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill.

The new criminal laws come into effect from July 1st. So some reduction in the fake news posts may happen, but it’s difficult to identify and the damage is done even before it can be taken down. Fake news travel faster, just like lies.

  1. Come What May-“Secular Hindus” will still vote for DMK,Congress and its allies and we all will suffer a Deon’s day! I am just wondering myself why I decided to return to India and have my progeny raised here.

  3. The dangerous part is how to identify a video as fake or genuine?
By the time you do enough damage is done !!!

    • Koka we just have to wait for the real info to come out or keep searching online to see if some alternative information is available. It’s difficult though 🙁 and yes the damage is done by that time.

  4. I guess it works like gossip, with video included and clips arranged to apppear real. In the US, I don’t watch television, because I assume it’s all fake. I like old books, which don’t change, except they tend to fall apart in this climate.

    • Katharine – these videos come up on social media and become viral. They do a lot of damage unfortunately. Gossip is mostly harmless but with video and photos a new reality gets created :(. Another thing in common between us – I don’t watch news at all, for exactly the same reason, it’s all fake 🤦‍♀️

      • Also, the videos often aren’t straightforward about the positions of their creators. Even when I read a novel, I like to know something about the author’s life and the periods and places where they lived. That way I can visualize it in context.
