I have always admired the famous CEO and now Chairman of Starbucks, Howard Schultz. We discussed the Starbucks case study during our MBA class. Loved the way they shut down 7000+ stores across America to retrain the Baristas to pour the perfect espresso, in 2008 !! Do read – Starbucks Employees Take Espresso 101.
Here is an excerpt from the article above –
Starbucks is the world’s largest coffee house chain ….. and till recently an Indian was their CEO.
Because their sales were not growing they decided to change their CEO, so out went Laxman Narasimhan and in came Brian Niccol.
Brian Niccol, the newly appointed CEO of Starbucks, will fly 1600 kms, 3 days of the week from California to Seattle, as he is unable to relocate 😥😳
And yes Starbucks is the champion of sustainability, they ethically source their organic coffee from 400,000 farmers in some 30 countries and they use paper cups. Now to top all this, their newest sustainability initiative is having their CEO fly in to work on the company jet, not even a commercial airline. Maybe the Starbucks corporate jet emits oxygen and burns carbon leaving no environmental footprint. Yeah am being sarcastic, but am not an American and my voice doesn’t matter !!!!
Everyone around the world must learn sustainability from the United States of America. The Earth will vanish in an instant. No Earth, No Activists and No Life – just the creator all by himself :):).
