Yesterday as we celebrated Bharat’s 78th Independence Day, I finally wore a saree inspired by the Tiranga (our flag). It’s an Ilkal saree that I got from Bhuvee.com and the minute they posted it, I bought it. This saree is the closest I will get to be wrapped in the Tiranga. …. Only the fortunate get that honour and it will probably remain a regret in this lifetime.
The “Tiranga” inspired Ilkal
Our beloved Prime Minister had asked every house to fly the flag, “Har Ghar Tiranga” and this is my entry :).
When we met very dear friends of ours in the evening, they commented that the women athletes in the Olympics contingent from Bharat should have worn this saree and the men athletes should have got kurtas or shirts made of handwoven cloth. …. the quality of our hand woven cloth is so outstanding. A big reason to feel proud of our heritage.
PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat
I put on my track pants, wore my Bata shoes, picked up the Made In India “Boat” headphones, connected to the live telecast using an iPhone (also probably made in India) and using Jio’s True 5G listened to the entire speech even as I completed my morning walk !!
Oh btw the T.Shirt and Track pants are also made in India. Hmmm… we have indeed come a long way. Just 10 or 12 years back, I would buy Apple headphones in the US because they were of fantastic quality and I would struggle to connect on the Vodafone connection with Krishnan sitting next to me 🙄. The Jio connection has worked non-stop since the day we got it in Feb 2019. Am Ported to Jio 🙂
Just see this information that came up on FB –
PM Modi’s speech had several important points, but this infographic captures the 10 most important things –

I can go on and on … we navigated the Pandemic very well. Rich countries floundered. The vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna have side effects that run into thousands of pages and here is Bharat, supplying life saving “Made In India” vaccine, to 120+ countries free of cost. Why shouldn’t we feel proud of this achievement ? Our economy bounced back faster and is the fastest growing economy “despite” the pandemic years. Ofcourse the Modi government has to be appreciated, it wasn’t Pandit Nehru’s spirit that navigated the pandemic.
Digital payments – Bharat is in stratosphere… am reminding myself that when we travel to a foreign country now, we HAVE to carry cash and credit cards. I walk out of the house with my phone and pay for everything using a QR code. The guy who irons our clothes takes his charges through GPay or BHIM, The fruit seller, the thela wala, the Bhutta seller – everyone takes digital payment. Am super proud of my country. We definitely bring this up every time we speak to our friends and family that live outside India.
25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty and still some jokers go around saying the growth is uneven !! These guys probably find fewer beggars and aren’t able to throw out a 20 rupee note and feel satisfied that they “helped” the poor beggar. Hey, save that 20, buy yourself some candy because soon there won’t be any beggars left in Bharat.
My passport comes without trouble, I got my driving license renewed without paying a single penny to any “tout”, we pay our tax online, the refunds come without follow up, banking is all online, the RuPay credit card is now digital so you can’t “lose” it… what’s not to feel proud ?
Many Miles to Go
Am not looking at Bharat with saffron tinted glasses … I know there is a lot more that has to be done. Am just miffed with some of the social media posts that I saw where some folks have said there is nothing to celebrate and nothing to be proud of. May Bhagwan give them some solace and gyan.
Am not forgetting the horrific rape and murder of the young doctor in West Bengal. Any rape anywhere is unacceptable. I want the perpetrator to be publicly castrated and publicly humiliated. What is the West Bengal Government doing ? It has a woman as the CM. She happens to be the Home Minister of the state … so the WB police falls under her direct responsibility. Well, the lady CM is also the Health Minister. I am not proud of West Bengal’s fall …. nor of the demographic changes that have happened under this CM’s misrule.
Many people may not like this but the FACT is Gujarat is probably the only state in India where a woman can go out at any time without fear. I have personally experienced this and it’s not hearsay. And Mr. Modi was the CM of Gujarat for 13 years …..
Hindu Lives Matter …. and what’s happening in neighbouring Bangladesh brings back horrific memories of the Direct Action Day in 1946 when 6000 Hindus were massacred. Am not proud of the fact that we as a country are allowing something similar to happen in Bangladesh. I would certainly urge our Govt to bring back the 1.2 crore Hindus and give them immediate citizenship. We can exchange them for the illegal immigrants that we have in plenty :(.
Bharat is the spiritual home for Hindus… there is no other place we can be.
My whole point is, Independence Day is a day of celebration. Many many people sacrificed their lives to get us this freedom or we would still be singing the glory of the Queen/King of a tiny island. We have much to be proud of as a nation and we also have many miles to go before all our dreams are realised.
A proud Bharatiya signing off !!
Jai Hind. Jai Hind Ki Sena.
