Size Matters !!

That got your attention ? Ofcourse size matters ! As my favourite quote says –

“It is not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, It is the size of the fight in the dog that matters”.

This is so true. This is the reason why the under dog wins. From the students’ election in my college at a micro level to India winning the Cricket World Cup in 1983, there are several examples of “the size of the fight” that matters.

Shark Tank & Anthony Franco

This morning I saw Season 11 Episode 23 of the Shark Tank program. Shark Tank is one of my favourite programs and I watch it regularly. Over the last couple of years I haven’t missed any of the Shark Tank episodes. Every one of them is absolutely engaging and full of insights.

The first person who entered the Shark Tank was Anthony Franco. He pitched for his venture mcSquares, that makes reusable sticky notes, in the process saving thousands of trees. His presentation was gripping, emotional and had all the details that the Sharks usually look for. Finally Mr. Wonderful, Kevin O’Leary invested in his venture.

What was totally fascinating was the fact that Anthony Franco is a school dropout and hasn’t been to any Ivy League college. He is totally self-taught and self-motivated !

“I was the stereotypical computer nerd in high school. In fact, I spent so much time in the computer lab that I allowed my other studies to slip. I wound up just barely graduating high school. Code was the only thing that made sense to me back then. I started my entrepreneurial career shortly after high school by taking on freelance technology projects for local advertising agencies. As my business grew, I realized that, if I wanted to thrive, I needed to understand people better than I understood technology. Ironically, my most current venture, mcSquares, is a company that focuses on people collaborating in “real life”, sans technology. My friends call me a ‘reformed technologist'”.
