Found this article on Times Now and then on BBC about – Egypt tomb: Sarcophagi buried for 2,500 years unearthed in Saqqara. They have found 25+ coffins at Saqqara, Egypt. Saqqara, is an ancient burial ground about 30km from Cairo. The first pyramids were built here almost like a trial and then the pyramids of Giza were built.
Me being a history buff and a huge Alexander fan, our second overseas trip ever was to Egypt in 2004. Also it was the first trip that MakeMyTrip organised. They were outstanding and the trip was truly memorable.
The minute I saw the news of these sarcophagi being found, I pulled out the pictures from 2004. Its fascinating to think that just 16 years back, we took a film roll camera with us and a separate video camera for the trip !! I still have both of them with me but more as museum pieces. For the past three years we have travelled without a camera, because the phone camera has been sufficient. At best I carry a point and shoot tiny digital camera.
Some pictures from our trip to Egypt, Pyramids of Giza and The Djoser Step Pyramid complex in Saqqara, on Sept 6, 2004.
Am very tempted to revisit Egypt… but am not sure if we will be able to in the foreseeable future. Too much of political upheaval. Maybe I will re-live our trip over ether :).
