Today marks the beginning of Sharad Navratri. For the next 9 days, nine forms of Maa Durga would be celebrated. I had written about it in an earlier post – Durga, the Divine Mother. I found a beautiful thread posted by @TheRudra1008 on Twitter about the Navadurga. Do read the entire thread –𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 | 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗮 & 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶 by @TheRudra1008
Reposting the excerpt of Day 1 Maa Shailputri’s significance for today.
Day 1 Maa Shailputri
Navratri is the celebration for nine Nights in honour of Goddess Durga. It celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon King Mahisasura.
It is considered to be a symbol of “Victory of good over Evil”.
1st Day : Devi Shailputri
On the first day Devi Shailaputri is worshipped
She is called the daughter of the mountain (Shaila= Mountain, Putri= Daughter) With a half-moon on the forehead, trident in the right hand and a Lotus in the left, she is mounted on Nandi.

Mantras to Worship Devi Shailputri :
1. Om Devi Shailputryai Swaha
2. Vande Vanchhit Laabhaay, Chandrardhkritshekharaam | Vrisharudham Shooldharaam Shailputriim Yashaswinim || [5/N]

Since our Chithi (aunt) passed away ten days back, we don’t celebrate any festival this year, but Maa Shailputri’s bhog today was lunch for the two electricians who were working at home !
या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शक्ति-रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥
Translation – The Devi who resides in every sentient being as Shakti (primordial life force), salutations to her again and again.
May Maa Shailputri bless us with prosperity, good health and happiness.
Happy Navratras.
