My first Kasavu

I knew the “Mundu” but never knew about the Kasavu saris of Kerala. When Jose gifted this sari to me, I didn’t know it was a Kasavu. I just loved the design and got the sari ready to wear. Then W3 happened and I figured out that I had been gifted a Kasavu :). Ofcourse I was thrilled.

I decided to wear it on this trip to Kerala and chose to wear it on the day we went out to meet our “Mallu” friends in Allepey. Pushpa, counting you in as a “Mallu” friend. Here is the picture at Pushpa’s place –

Amma is wearing her favourite green sari that is from Kumaran stores. Pushpa is a blue Bengali taint and I am in the off-white Kasavu.

The pallu is grand !! and the check out the checks in the pleats. The neckpiece is from Desh Maheshwari, Noida. Pushpa is in a beautiful Bengali Taant and Vedavalli (the beauty that’s my mom), is wearing a sari from Kumaran Stores that’s a soft cotton which refuses to wrinkle.

I have to get a clear picture of the pallu and add it to this post later. We also plan on visiting the Kasavu weaving cluster at Kuthampully, Thrissur the next time we are in Kerala.

Our country has an endless stream of interesting weaves for the handloom lover … fascinating.

Jose, thank you for this sari. Love it.
