Just yesterday I posted about the Top Five and my views on this season of Masterchef Australia. In India, Masterchef Australia is telecast by Disney Hotstar and it’s a day later. So in Australia if viewers get to see the episodes from Monday to Thursday, in India, we get to see it from Tuesday to Friday.
Episode 43 gave us the top five for this season – Nat had already qualified for the top five because she won immunity at Hong Kong and Darsh got eliminated in the Guillaume Brahimi’s Pressure test. So we had Nat, Sav, Mimi, Harry and Pezza as the top five.
Episode 44 was about recreating a dish that their food hero would have made for them or would have liked them to make. Nat won immunity with her roast bone marrow with jeow som, Khao Jee and betel leaf pomelo salad.
I won’t be able to eat anything that Nat made except maybe the sticky rice patties if they are made without egg 🙂 but her presentation is just brilliant. The judges praised her cooking as well. She is just outstanding.
Episode 45 – Top Four
This episode has been titled as the Extreme Ingredients Elimination Challenge. There were five ingredients – Epoisses cheese (a smelly cheese which is banned in the Metro in France), Carolina Reaper (The spiciest chilli “created” in the world, Bhoot Jholokiya is the natural version), Monkfruit (The sourest thing on Earth), Umeboshi (the sweetest thing) and Bitter Gourd (our dear Karela, the bitterest gourd). The contestants had to use any one of them in such a way that they became not just edible but you could enjoy the dish.
Sav as expected chose Carolina Reaper ! No surprise there. Pezza and Harry chose the Epoisses smelly cheese, again no surprise there, and Mimi chose Bitter Gourd, which was a surprise. Karela is actually the easiest amongst all these ingredients to make a tasty dish out of.
Well, Sav’s dish was judged as the tastiest dish made in the competition so far ….. that’s huge. Her dish looked great as well even though this is again a dish that I can never eat :).
Savindri has been at the receiving end of obnoxious comments from viewers. It must be really hurtful. But here’s the thing I want to say to Sav – it all comes out of feeling inferior. Not one of those people who say nasty things about her have her pizzaz and zest for life. Sav is in your face, supremely confident and very very talented. When we started watching the program, my bet was on Savindri to win Masterchef, this season.
Along the way, I thought Nat had a better chance, but looking at Sav’s cooking in Episode 45, am putting her back on top. This girl needs to win this competition just to prove the online bullies wrong. And hopefully she does that by cooking a kickass Sri Lankan curry and some string hoppers :):):). Don’t Worry, Eat Curry.
Unfortunately nothing worked right for Mimi in Episode 45. She was the one to leave the competition in this episode. Wishing her the very best… what an amazing young lady and an amazing cook too. Just not her day !
So the top four are Sav, Nat, Harry and Pezza.
More to come….
