Indore cleanest! 4th time in a row

We visited Indore in 2017. Krishnan had been there before a few times as part of the his work with USAID, but I have never been to Indore. The one thing that stood out was the cleanliness of the city wherever we went.

Today I saw the results of the Swachh Survekshan (Swachh Bharat Mission’s survey) for 2020. Indore has topped the survey for the 4th time in a row. Amazing achievement.

Here are the top twenty cleanest cities in India.

4. Ambikapur, Chattisgarh
5. Mysore, Karnataka 
6. Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh 
7. Ahmedabad, Gujarat

9. Chandrapur, Maharashtra
10. Khargone, Madhya Pradesh
11. Rajkot, Gujarat 
12. Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh 
13. Jamshedpur, Jharkhand 
14. Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh 
15. Gandhinagar, Gujarat 
16. Chandigarh 
17. Dhule, Maharashtra

Some of the newspaper articles that speak of these survey results – These are the top 20 cleanest cities in India and India’s cleanest cities 2020. I was a little sad to see that Vizag is missing from the top 25, but it seems to be in the 9th position if cities with a population greater than 10 lakhs are considered. Happy to see Delhi and Chandigarh on this list. Noida made it to the 25 position.

Gurugram is at a dismal 62. We have some distance to cover.

Interestingly Varanasi tops the list of the cleanest cities along the banks of River Ganga. I am a huge fan of Mr. Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. This is a Giga project and the Modi Government has succeeded spectacularly. All those who smirk and say, my street is still dirty, rest your vocal chords, grab a broom and start cleaning. India won’t become clean if we keep discussing about cleanliness without helping with the process.

Carry a garbage bag in the car always. Don’t litter. Keeping the public places clean is as important as keeping your house clean. Don’t just jog, but “plog”… don’t know about plogging yet? Meet the plogman of India – Ripu Daman Bevli.
