Article 25 – #1 Nail on the Hindu Coffin

India gained independence on Aug 15, 1947 from the British Colonial empire. Our beloved motherland was cut into pieces… West Pakistan and East Pakistan were the fresh wounds. The Muslim League and its leader Jinnah felt, they wouldn’t get a fair chance in a Hindu majority India. I can almost see Aurangzeb clapping his hands in glee in his grave, as the lines were drawn on Bharat’s map cutting out two large chunks of land.

On Jan 26, 1950 India adopted the constitution and became a Sovereign, Democratic and Republic state. Between Aug 15, 1947 and Jan 26, 1950 our motherland was called Dominion of India…or union of India, an independent dominion of the British Commonwealth of Nations.

The partition of India was done on religious lines. The Indian Muslim League got a separate nation with a Muslim majority and India was a Hindu majority. The bloodiest chapter of the Indian Independence movement was written in 1947, when families and friends were torn apart as Hindus moved back to India and Muslims moved to Pakistan. Nearly 1 million people died … the number could be as high as 2 million even. No one knows and no one cares to know.

There were assurances that you could choose to stay wherever and no harm will come your way, but those assurances were hollow.

Hindu Muslim Population Stats

Cut to the present … Pakistan is in doldrums and a failed state with terrorism being its main business. The change in the Hindu minority (including Sikhs and Christians) population is shocking – from being 25% of the overall population in 1947, it’s now down to less than 2%. Contrast that with the Muslim population in India – it’s exactly the opposite story. From being 14% in 1947 to being nearly 27% in 2021, India has the world’s second largest Muslim population in the world.

Hindu Coffin

There are 210 million Muslims in India today … there were 3 million back in 1947. A seven fold increase.

Article 25

On Dec 6, 1948 the first nail in the Hindu Coffin was rammed into place, when the constituent assembly accepted Article 25 of the constitution without changes …. post a debate. Read below –

Article 25 - Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion.

(1) Subject to public order, morality and health and to the other provisions of this Part, all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practice and propagate religion.

(2) Nothing in this article shall affect the operation of any existing law or prevent the State from making any law—

(a) regulating or restricting any economic, financial, political or other secular activity which may be associated with religious practice;

(b) providing for social welfare and reform or the throwing open of Hindu religious institutions of a public character to all classes and sections of Hindus.

Explanation I.—The wearing and carrying of kirpans shall be deemed to be included in the profession of the Sikh religion.

Explanation II.—In sub-clause (b) of clause (2), the reference to Hindus shall be construed as including a reference to persons professing the Sikh, Jaina or Buddhist religion, and the reference to Hindu religious institutions shall be construed accordingly.

Knowing fully well that the Abrahamic religions “propagate” their religion, either forcibly or through incentive, a Hindu majority nation made this Article a part of their constitution. Hindus don’t propagate their religion, we don’t proselytize. The result is the Hindu population has reduced to below 80%.

And the Dhimmi Hindu is unaware, unconcerned and in many cases helping those driving the nail, by handing them the sharpest and best nails plus the hammer. 🤬

Do read my earlier post – July – Hindu Persecution Awareness Month. Particularly the table that shows how the North Eastern states became a Christian majority in just under 100 years. Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Telangana and Punjab are in the grip of Christian conversion. West Bengal and Kerala seem ready to become Islamic states. These are large chunks of our country that are probably slipping away from us :(.

Conversion leads to changes in the social fabric. As a Hindu woman, am free to live my life as I choose … watch The Kerala Story movie to understand what happens when you convert. The Christian conversion is totally driven with a political agenda from the West. The objective is to drive internal strife in India using religion.

Hindus can wake up and smell the coffee at least now or wait for all the nails to be put onto their coffin and suffocate to death.

Article 25 has to be redrafted and now ! Enough is enough. #HinduLivesMatter

Disclaimer – Am not an expert on the constitution and its interpretation. Am just making a point about the effects of Article 25. The excerpt above can be read at this link – Article 25.

  1. B and K,
I’m not a religious person but respect all religions. I also respect and am grateful that Hindus don’t proselytize, because others do so much of it.

You may know that stuartbramhall.wordpress.com has been summarizing a documentary series about world history. The last couple of installments focused on India and the Hindu tradition, among other things. It may interest you.

Although all this bad feeling among the various religions saddens me, I also see a richness in the diversity of beliefs. My vintage “Atlas of World History” has shown me how borders, cultures, skills, language, and values have changed over the centuries, but disproportionately.

Your pride in India is refreshing.

    • Thanks for your comment Katharine. Will check out Stuart Bramhall’s blog. Didn’t know about this.

Like you am very welcoming of different religions so long as I am allowed to retain my freedom to choose my belief 😊. Unfortunately that option doesn’t exist in Islam for instance. So it becomes difficult to listen to anything good about a religion when I can’t question any of the tenets.

      • B,
It’s hard for me, too, to find value in any authortarian belief system. The Abrahamic religions all have elements of that, which may be a fault of monotheism generally. I continue to revert to my childhood belief that God is everywhere and within everything but manifests differently for different people or creatures. It’s too bad there is so little tolerance or appreciation for those who have different perspectives.
