Sept 7 2025 – Anniversary @ Yogyakarta
I was introduced to the Tilfi website by my saree-twin Anu Varshney. Have been browsing their website and drooling over the stunning creations… but hadn’t bought any saree till last year. The one saree that I definitely wanted to get was the “Kashi” saree. Just seeing the ghats, temples and the boats woven into a saree’s border was enough to keep me hooked.
Ordered the Black-Magenta Kashi saree on March 30th last year, as we were watching the movie on our legendary freedom fighter Swatantrya Veer Savarkar at the theatre. It got delivered a few days later. For a few minutes I just kept seeing the saree…. it was so beautiful. The Katan silk is butter soft, but the ghats and temples of Kashi woven on the bottom border is something else !
We visited the Borobudur and Prambanan temples in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on our anniversary (Sept 7th) and it was fitting to wear the Kashi saree on this occasion. Rajendra Chola, the great son of Emperor Raja Raja Chola conquered parts of Indonesia and brought the holy water of River Ganga to Thanjavur. So wearing the Kashi Saree that depicted the Ganga and the ghats of Varanasi when we were on land that had been ruled over by Rajendra Chola was fitting.
In fact several Indonesian people took pictures with Krishnan and I at Borobudur just because of the saree. It was momentary celebrityhood :):). One of the gentlemen said Krishnan was very handsome (agree 100%) like Shah Rukh Khan…. well, Shah Rukh is a star, a celebrity and very well known.. good looking? maybe not. Comparing me to Hema Malini was very interesting. They seemed to know only these two film stars. While I was elated to be compared to Hema Malini, its funny that they didnt recall any of the current heroines.
Reminded us of our trip to Egypt way back in 2004. Everywhere they would point to Amma and me and say “India ? Amitabh Bachchan”. It seems movies have no boundaries.
Enjoy the pics of the saree…. I just loved wearing it.
If you would like to buy the “Kashi” saree, please visit the Tilfi website – Tilfi Kashi Collection. They deliver all over the world.
