On Sept 9th, we left from Om Niwas, Jaipur for Udaipur.
The last time we had done this drive in 2019, the new expressway from Kishangarh was being built. We went through Chittorgarh and Nathdwara to reach Udaipur. This time the highway was fully constructed and what a lovely drive it was !!
We stopped at a roadside shop that had nice covered parking to make tea and coffee. Krishnan bought a bottle of water so that the owner of the hotel didn’t feel we took a free stop. As Krishnan was driving the Ajmer – Nasirabad stretch, I shot a short video of our beautiful country.
Expressway Delights, Overspeeding attracts Fines
I was not overspeeding ! Just averaging around 100 kmph on this Kishangarh Udaipur expressway. Apparently the speed limit is 80 kmph. All the fun of driving on a world class highway comes crashing down when you have such speed limits.
Actually the speed limit on highways should be 120 kmph. We don’t live in the socialist era anymore where usage was frowned upon. We live in ModiJi’s new Bharat – a modern vibrant country with world class infrastructure. The rules should also change, accordingly :).
Anyway we were flagged down and had to pay Rs. 1000/- as fine. The traffic cops were ok to check Krishnan’s driving license even though I was the driver and thanks to online payment systems, the fine was paid through GPay and a receipt given instantly.
Jaipur to Udaipur -Trip Stats
There is road construction happening just as you approach Udaipur. Google maps asked us to take the service road and we took it with a lot of trepidation. Our earlier experience with Google maps asking us to take a service road haven’t been good :). This was a great suggestion as it took us out of the jam on NH48 and helped us reach Zade House at Udaipur by 4.45 pm. Probably it knew what was in store for us at Zade House and treated us kindly. Thank You Google maps!
Om Niwas, Jaipur to Zade House, Udaipur distance – 427 Kms.
Total toll – Rs. 350/-; Over speeding fine – Rs. 1000/-.
Total Time taken – 6.5 hours (including Pit Stops and the time taken to pay the fine – 30 minutes)
