On Dec 31, 2025 we accidentally watched episode #101 of KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati) which featured Mr.Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, one of the largest conglomerates in Bharat. All the proceeds from his winnings were being given away to the NGO called Jaipur Foot, the world’s largest organisation for the disabled. They have provided prosthetics to over 2.2 million people and totally free of cost.
It was interesting to listen to Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla as he narrated anecdotes from his childhood, especially those of his great grandfather and grandfather as they were closely associated with our independence and early stages of Bharat being an independent nation.
Once that episode was finished it automatically rolled over to the next episode #102. Mr. Biplab Biswas took the hot seat after winning the fastest finger round. He introduced himself as an inspector in CRPF currently posted in Chhattisgarh. The first ten questions were answered so quickly by Mr. Biplab that we were stunned ! At one point when Amitabh Bachchan asked him why no one had come with him, the entire atmosphere changed.
Mr. Biplab Biswas lost his wife during covid and his father also passed away within a month of his wife’s passing. What was more heart rending was the fact that Mr. Biswas, who has done the last rites for so many people couldn’t perform the last rites for his wife or his father. He couldn’t even come back to see them for the last time as there were restrictions on travel and duty called.
What he has done to deal with this personal tragedy is the stuff legends are made of – he has adopted four tribal girl children from very poor families and is bringing them up as his own. One of them is already employed with CRPF, the other one is married to an army soldier and two of the younger girls are studying now. How does someone do that ?? Most people would just give up !!
We were totally inspired even as we were very emotional thinking about the sequence of events. The loss of his wife and father, has deeply affected his mother who is struggling with mental health issues now. Mr. Biplab Biswas is truly an inspiration. He continues to move forward in the face of tragedy, has won awards for his courageous service, even a UN medal and ofcourse he is making a huge difference to so many lives. Hope someone writes about his story as an inspiring tale of courage and resilience for school students. Heroes live amongst us not on the silver screen and Mr. Biplab Biswas is certainly one such hero.
Am sure Amitabh Bachchan was both surprised and inspired by Mr. Biplab Biswas because of his attitude. He sings, plays badminton, takes care of his daughters and serves the nation as though these were all simple everyday things ! Hats off to Mr. Biplab Biswas, and thanks to him for helping so many of us start 2026 with enthusiasm and energy. So glad that he won Rs. 1 Crore.
We learnt three important lessons from Mr. Biplab Biswas – Preparation is a must if you want to win, tragedy can be converted into something inspiring, have the courage to take risks.
