Yesterday Krishnan and I voted. It was the 6th phase, the penultimate phase of the 2024 General Elections. An infographic to capture the staggering numbers of Bharat’s General Elections 2024 –
Some interesting facts of Bharat’s General Elections 2024 –
- Total number of eligible voters – 970 million which is more than the total population of the US (330 million) and the European Union (450 million including the illegal immigrants) put together.
- First time voters – 18 million, which is equal to the total population of Ecuador !
- Young electors, aged below 29 – 197 million, which is 20 million more than the population of Bangladesh. (Ofcourse we have absorbed nearly 50 million illegal immigrants …. who have probably managed to get all the voting credentials in India).
- Senior voters – 8.1 million. This is the total population of countries like Austria, Switzerland, Laos, Sierra Leone give or take a few thousands.
- Number of polling stations – 1 million plus (1,048,202). We have more polling stations than the population of 73 countries that are least populated. (not collectively, but individually).
- Number of centenarians – 218,442. Firstly I don’t think any other country has so many centenarians !!! According to the Pew research paper that quotes the UN numbers, there are 722,000 centenarians in the world in 2024…. and India has just 48,000. But going by the voters list, once again Pew Research and the UN have got their numbers wrong :(:(:(:(.
- Number of polling officials and security staff deployed during the elections – 15 million. Again, this number is just a million shy of the total population of Zimbabwe and a million more than the total population of Guinea.
The process of casting the votes –
First we need to check if our voter ID card is updated and valid. There are camps held ahead of the general elections to ensure everyone eligible has their voter ID card. You can also check online at this website – Search in Electoral Roll or call 1950 or download the Voter Helpline app or send an SMS to 1950. We had checked a couple of weeks back. A representative of the election commission of India came by a few days before May 25th (our phase) to hand over voting slips.
Steps at the polling booth
- First polling official will check your name on the voter list and check your ID proof
- Second polling official will ink your finger, give you a slip and take your signature on a register (Form 17A)
- You will have to deposit the slip at the third polling official and show your inked finger and then proceed to the polling booth
- Record your vote by pressing the ballot button opposite the symbol of the candidate of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM); You will hear a beep sound
- Check the slip that appears in the transparent window of the VVPAT machine. The slip with the Candidate serial No., Name and Symbol shall be visible for 7 seconds before it drops in the sealed VVPAT box.
There is one more phase to go on June 1, 2024.
The results will be announced on June 4, 2024 and Modiji’s 3rd term will begin. This festival of democracy is gigantic and all those jokers (Pappu, Thugpurush, Mummy Ji, Penguin, Tonti Chor, Jehadidi etc etc etc) who keep trying to say democracy is under threat are truly joking. Why would Modiji go through this whole drama just to remain in power ?
Modiji will remain in power because he is the greatest Prime Minister this country has seen since 1947 and the greatest political leader in recent times. Hate him, Love him, it doesn’t matter, but all those who love Bharat, would have and will vote for him. What he has accomplished for India in these 10 years (2014-24) is unprecedented, unbelievable and unmatched.
The elections are fair, oh please, don’t talk about paper ballots – its exactly like mooning over Madhubala and wishing we had some poor idiot fanning us during the hot summers because we don’t want to be “developed” and fans use electricity. EVM’s are not hacked, it’s just the losers who cry sour grapes. If they did even 50% of the work that Mr. Modi does (not counting the amazing hardwork put in by all the ministers), EVM’s won’t be a problem.
Thank You Modiji, it’s our collective good fortune that you are our Prime Minister and it’s our individual privilege and honour to vote for you. May Bhagwan bless you with a long life and may Bajrang Bali give you the strength to lead us into a better tomorrow. Jai Hind. Jai Hind Ki Sena.
