I have discovered a way to wear a few additional new sarees each year. Krishnan and my birthdays can be celebrated twice each year … one as per the star (Hindu/Tamil Calendar) and the other as per the Julian calendar. My star birthday this year was on April 2nd. I wore a beautiful Sambalpuri Cotton with intricate Bandha work on that day !
Sambalpuri Cotton Saree from Duhieta
Please do visit Duhieta’s Facebook/Instagram page – @Duhieta or the website Duhieta to see some fabulous handwoven sarees of Odisha.
This one is pure cotton in a deep maroon colour. I didn’t even wait to pico the sides or stitch a fall before wearing it. I will do all that and wear it another day. Loved it the minute I saw it on FB. Duhieta had a sale as part of their Weaver Vikas program where they are trying to help the weavers sell their sarees. The pandemic has hit sales of handwoven sarees and weavers are as it is amongst the poorest in our country.
Arpita is the founder of Duhieta and she is a young entrepreneur. She has a boutique store in Cuttack besides FB and Instagram pages. Her contact number is +91 99372 39291.
