On our way back from Ramtek, we asked our taxi driver to take us to a restaurant which served authentic Maharashtrian food. He first suggested Vishnu Ji ki Rasoi, but Mr. Rohan, the owner of S S Car Rentals suggested that we go to Varhadi Thaat instead.
Am still able to mentally taste the totally awesome Puran Poli that we ate on Nov 13th. If you have a day in Nagpur, don’t miss eating at Varhadi Thaat. They started out as caterers and have setup this restaurant a few years back. It is authentic Maharashtrian food.
Krishnan and I had the Jowar Bhakri and my soul was satisfied !! I love both the jowar and bajra bhakri. I am just not very good at making them, but I still do. We also got a couple of Jowar Bhakris packed for the next day. Ate Phodni Varan and Vadi Rassa with the Bhakri. Amma wanted rice as she doesn’t eat Bhakri at all. She didn’t like the Phodni Varan much so I ordered a Jeera Dal for her. All three of us LOVED the Puran Poli. Got a couple of those packed as well.
The service is fantastic and the restaurant is clean. They use steel plates and steel tumblers to serve the food, so it’s both environment friendly and healthy. It has few covers so can get crowded during meal times.
Do visit and enjoy the amazing food at Varhadi Thaat.
