Blue Flag Beaches – 8 in India !!

Amidst all the gloom and doom of the pandemic, 8 beaches of India are awarded the Blue Flag certification in one go. Its the largest number of beaches to be awarded the certification in the first attempt. What a proud moment for all of us !

The eight beaches that got certified are – Shivrajpur (Dwarka), Ghoghla (Diu), Kasarkod and Padubidri (Karnataka), Kappad (Kerala), Rishikonda (AP), Golden Beach (Odisha) and Radhanagar (A&N). Am embarrassed that besides Rishikonda and Golden beach, I haven’t even heard of the others :(:(.

Please read the HT article about this – India becomes first nation to be awarded Blue Flag certification for 8 beaches in a single attempt.

The amazing sand artist, Sudarshan Pattnaik has posted the following picture on his FB page.

What does the Blue Flag certification mean ?

In plain English it means these beaches are well maintained, they are clean and sustainable ! Yayyy.

I took this from the Blue Flag website. It seems the website isn’t updated yet as there are 50 countries that have Blue Flag beaches. India has just joined that elite list.

This certification is clearly a result of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Till Mr. Modi spoke of a Swachh Bharat, we allowed filth, garbage and apathy to pile up all around us. We lamented about how clean Europe or the US was as we drove in our Audis and BMWs and threw out the snack paper bag out of the window ! What a dramatic shift this one single Mission has brought about.

Feeling very proud that our country is getting cleaner, greener and the world is taking notice.

Hooray !
