Dragonfly!

When I was in school, these dragonflies were everywhere and many of the boys in school would catch them, just to see them hover around like helicopters. That’s infact the “desi” name for these dragonflies, “helicopter” insect.

Last year in May I had captured the picture of a lone dragonfly that came visiting and perched on our balcony’s insect screen. I never posted about it last year and found the photo while clearing my phone’s photo albums.

A few interesting facts about Dragonflies from Wikipedia – Dragonfly.

  1. Dragonflies and their relatives are an ancient group.. fossils found from millions of years back.
  2. Dragonflies are predators !
  3. They are fast, agile fliers and live near water.
  4. They are used in traditional medicine in Japan and China, and caught for food in Indonesia. They are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness in Japan, but seen as sinister in European folklore.

Nature is so fascinating and so full of different species, despite 7 billion human beings. Also Nature’s resilience is remarkable. Species that become extinct return, or morph and survive. High time that we humans learnt to respect Mother Nature and protect her.
