Madeleines … for Jason Statham!

I don’t have a sweet tooth and I don’t like cakes very much, but there are certain cakes that I like eating once in a while. I love the Chocolate mud pie or mud cake.. don’t know where I tasted it first but a warm chocolate mud pie is just awesome. In Cafe Delhi Heights they have these mud pies and I try to order them once a year. Don’t know of any other place that makes it well.

The only other cake type that I like are the ones without any cream – so the sponge cakes, tea cakes, marble cakes etc are ok once in a blue moon. In 2011 or so I first caught sight of Jason Statham in his 2002 movie “The Transporter”. I immediately became a fan of his and let go of George Clooney. Jason Statham is good looking enough to make your day feel better instantly. I have watched The Transporter several times since and I remember most scenes vividly :).

When we went to Cambodia in 2014, our guide Kong Soeun took us to one of the best bakery & patisserie we have ever been to called the Cafe Blue Pumpkin in Siem Reap. While looking around we found a pack of “Madeleines” and I immediately bought them as I remembered the scene in “The Transporter” where the chinese girl makes these Madeleines for Jason Statham and the police inspector happens to visit just then. Wikipedia says – “The madeleine or petite madeleine is a traditional small cake from Commercy and Liverdun, two communes of the Lorraine region in northeastern France. Madeleines are very small sponge cakes with a distinctive shell-like shape acquired from being baked in pans with shell-shaped depressions.”

A few days back I found Madeleines in a store in Vienna and again at the Hauptbahnhof (Central station) lounge. Enjoyed eating them and remembering Jason Statham !
