I never thought I would agree with anything that Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar said or did, but he surprised me by speaking the truth for a change. When asked about the BOT-Twit’s selection-disguised-as-election to the top post in the CONparty, Mr. Aiyar sneered – “When Shah Jahan came in the place of Jahangir did any election happen? And when Aurangzeb came in place of Shah Jahan did any election happen? It was known to everyone that the throne of the king will automatically go to the heir.”
I must admit, it has taken me two days to recover from that shock ! That Mr. Aiyar refers to the Mughal empire for examples is no surprise but to give away the secret so easily is just not done. Has he lost it? He was supposed to say “Rahul Gandhi is the most effective leader in CONgress. I have served his father and mother loyally and will transfer my entire loyalty to him now. Have fixed the tender to serve tea at the coronation ceremony in favour of the BJP as the PM is busy.” Right? Probably the script flew out of his hands or the smog further addled his pristinely demented brain and he blurted the truth :):):).
Sorry readers, that last sentence took effort and I wrote it for Mr. Aiyar’s friend and fellow party man Mr. Tharoor. Now my brain is addled. Will resume writing in a few minutes after breathing in the freshly polluted air of Gurgaon.
… Am back. I just feel the CONgress spent an enormous amount of money trying to put up a smokescreen. Do they really think that India is keenly looking forward to the elevation of Rahul Gandhi? Think again – he offers the much needed comic relief in the otherwise sombre insult-trading political scenario in India today. More importantly, elevating him as the CONgress President is once again telling us, the electorate that we are fools – a person without ANY qualification to be in that post is being foisted upon us as a leader. If it isn’t an insult, what is?? What has Rahul Gandhi done in the 27 years of his life that he has been an adult ? Atleast his late father flew planes…. I am struggling to find ONE thing that this human being has done besides existing and all of a sudden he is a “leader”?
I am surprised at the other members of the CONgress party – there are several out there who are sensible, well-meaning folk who have achieved a lot of success in their chosen fields, are educated, have an opinion about things, have contributed to some sphere meaningfully and ALL of them stand in a queue to accept this man as the leader? Something is seriously wrong. The only explanation that I can come up with is to think that they want this guy to be the head of the party so that they can continue to expand their personal fiefdoms. He just wouldn’t care. How else can you accept this man as a leader?
Thankfully for India, we are still a democracy and Rahul Gandhi will need to lead his CONparty to an election win to do some damage. I for one, will not make the mistake that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is making, of assuming that the electorate is foolish – I am trusting my fellow citizens to vote sensibly. Every ruling party needs a strong opposition …. the operative word is “strong”, not dimwits foisted upon us as leaders. Enough said.
… and thanks Mr. Aiyar, you washed off some of your sins by uttering that truth. Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Congratulations.
